SLICED CORNER
(aka LEANING CORNER)
1969
Silkscreened onto Kent Hollingworth paper.
Description:
As with the previous print (Collapsed Room? AW), highly enlarged screen dots were used to provide a texture. In addition, in this print a linear structure was drawn and both this and the texture dots were screened photographically. The "background" colour was difficult to determine and several copies show a more pink colour. The triangular shape varies slightly from a pale to a transparent rich blue/green.
Introduction of texture similar fashion as Homage to the Bullet by means of enlarged screen dots. The upright section printed by use of glue-stencil and the texture dots obtained photographically and a screen made from this. The form followed roughly that from one of the 1968 Christmas cards.
Printing: Proofed by the artist in his studio-workshop, March 1969 in 4 colours.
Exhibited:
Sales: 1. Framed
2. Lesta O’Brien
3. Lesta O’Brien
4. Armidale then Joan Wicks
5.
1 – 11/14 numbered, with 4 artists’ proof.
Notes:
The purpose of this print was to examine a "situation" possibility for the large painting Slice.
Trouble was experienced in getting the "right" colours for the upright section. Once this had been determined, the shape and colour of the texture came naturally, though several copies show the texture covering different areas.
