Another subscriber, the neo-Australian Chilean Juan Davila, seems to be contenting everybody in the name of a regionalistic politics and of the planetary solidarity of all countries with difficult identities. For my part, I have a specially soft spot for the Conceptualists, the Environmentalists and the Performers whose work makes a complex cocktail of Aboriginal references, cattle-station folklore, and urban-protest body art: people like Ken Unsworth, Imants Tillers, Marr Grounds, Mike Parr, Arthur Wicks, etc.
Are they in disgrace, and therefore dropped from the export plans wittingly made by the Australia Council? Or they being kept in reserve for the exclusively Anglo-Saxon circuits, on a New York-Toronto-London return ticket?................................
